In a significant diplomatic engagement, the Honorable Mayor of Zanzibar City, Hon. Mahmoud M. Mussa, welcomed the Ambassador of Jamaica to his office at Michenzani Mall on August 14, 2024.
This meeting marks the beginning of a promising partnership between the cities of Zanzibar and Kingston, Jamaica, with a focus on mutual growth in key sectors such as tourism, education, and the economy.
During the talks, both leaders expressed their commitment to fostering a strong and sustainable relationship that would benefit their respective cities. The discussions centered on identifying areas of cooperation and the strategic benefits that could arise from a closer alliance between the two cities.
One of the key outcomes of the meeting was the initiation of the process to formalize this collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This MoU will outline the specific areas of partnership and the mechanisms for cooperation, with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities of Zanzibar taking the lead in managing the process.

The city’s historical and cultural richness, combined with Jamaica’s vibrant cultural heritage and economic potential, offers a unique opportunity for both cities to exchange knowledge, resources, and expertise.
The Mayor emphasized the importance of this cooperation in boosting tourism, enhancing educational opportunities, and driving economic growth. He also noted that the partnership aligns with Zanzibar’s broader vision of becoming a hub for international collaboration and sustainable development.
As the process of formalizing this partnership continues, both Zanzibar and Kingston can look forward to a future of shared success and strengthened bonds.
