Today at the Magical Kenya Travel Expo 2024, Hon. Cuthbert Ncube, Executive Chairman of the African Tourism Board (ATB), held a pivotal meeting with Hon. Rebecca Miano, E.G.H., Cabinet Secretary and Minister of Tourism & Wildlife for the Republic of Kenya. During their discussion, Hon. Ncube took the opportunity to congratulate Hon. Miano on her appointment as Kenya’s Tourism Minister, a role she assumed approximately six months ago. He expressed ATB’s commitment to strengthening the longstanding relations between Kenya and the ATB, underscoring a collaborative approach in the future of African tourism.

The meeting, held on the sidelines of the expo in Nairobi, focused on key strategies to promote Kenya as a prime destination for tourism and investment. Both leaders agreed on the importance of inclusive destinations, emphasizing the need for an all-encompassing approach in Kenya’s tourism development. They outlined collaborative efforts in two major areas: Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE), and investment promotion, both critical in boosting tourism traffic and economic growth.

Hon. Ncube assured Hon. Miano that the African Tourism Board would work closely with the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) to elevate the 2025 Magical Kenya Travel Expo to new heights. With an enhanced focus on investment, ATB and KTB aim to incorporate a broader dialogue on Kenya’s tourism investment opportunities, seeking active participation from African Union Member States. This initiative will aim to foster a cohesive and well-coordinated approach to tapping into the intra-Africa trade market, in line with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) objectives.

The partnership between ATB and Kenya is part of a larger vision to foster greater collaboration across Africa’s tourism sector, ensuring that member states not only engage in promoting destinations but also capitalize on investment opportunities that can drive sustainable growth for the continent. Hon. Ncube reiterated that ATB’s core mission is to promote partnerships that are mutually beneficial to all stakeholders, with a view to bettering the African tourism landscape.

Hon. Rebecca Miano, a seasoned public servant with vast experience in Kenya’s energy and tourism sectors, welcomed the ATB’s commitment and emphasized Kenya’s readiness to take on more significant roles in regional tourism efforts. She praised the work of the African Tourism Board in advocating for African destinations globally and looked forward to closer cooperation in achieving mutual objectives.

As Kenya continues to position itself as a gateway for international visitors to East Africa and beyond, this collaboration with the ATB signals a new era of increased investment, strengthened partnerships, and enhanced tourism promotion strategies.
